All members of the Gate Lab are secure registered members invited by us. However, if you’re a visitor you can see below how members use the site.

You can view and amend all your ideas by ticking “my ideas” at the site’s search facility. The search facility is located by clicking on the button labelled “order ideas by”. It’s important to keep tabs on feedback left by other members so that you can re-draft, collaborate with others and ultimately watch it blossom. The more you water and tend your ideas, the faster they will grow.

Don’t forget to read and support other people’s ideas that you like. “Order ideas by” also let’s you arrange and browse every story submitted to the site by genre, type and platform. Once you’ve read an idea make sure you leave feedback and ratings. Don’t forget, The Gate Lab is a collaborative community. The more you comment the more exposure your own ideas will have and the more likely you are to meet like minded writers to collaborate with in the future.

We’ve assembled a panel of experienced TV and Film producers whose role is to cherry pick their favourite ideas for guidance and development. They may help you progress your idea but this doesn’t mean you have to use them should your job be greenlighted by a channel. Commissioners are invited into the site and may contact you about your idea. Should this happen, any of the panel members or your contact at the Gate are available to support you in the subsequent stages of the commissioning process.

At Gatelab, the moment you commit your idea to the site it is IMMEDIATELY sent to our copyright lawyers (nexus solicitors, Carlton House,16-18 Albert Square, Manchester M2 5PE) and logged as YOUR idea, giving you copyright protection according to the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. This service is free of charge. It’s important that you know this is a members only site and not a free for all. Everyone on here has either been invited by the Gate Films or is a member recommendation that has been vetted.
Step 1 - Plant an idea
Click on plant an idea and follow the simple instructions to upload your script, document or drawing (including a 200 word pitch) to the site. Also be sure to carefully select your search tags as it will enable commissioners and panel members to search out the kind of ideas they’re specifically looking for. Once planted, your idea can be viewed, rated and commented on by other users. Once an idea is planted it is fully Copyright protected on your behalf by the site
